For the Love of (De)Evolution
by rosemarie dombrowski

A single nerve bundled around the legs of a wren.
The magnified whiskers of a cockroach.

Here, the saguaro is strikingly absent from the frame.
And the act of morphing is not the same as metaphorphosis.

This is the evolution that begins with the greening of the heart,
spores reproducing like animals in heat,

our once-human bodies rotting in the river rock,
clogging the basin for days.
